February 17, 2013
In the context of a rapidly changing climate, the Sierra Club and 350.org are co-sponsoring the “Forward on Climate” Rally, to demand that President Obama creates a strong climate policy. The rally will take place in Washington, DC, on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. We will all be playing a pivotal role, to make this the largest climate rally in the history of the United States, with an expected attendance of over 20,000. With President Obama about to begin his second term, it is critical that he hears from his constituents about the importance of championing strong climate policy. Superstorm Sandy has reminded us, just how vulnerable Long Island can be to climate change. That is why it is critical that Long Island is represented at the rally. We filled the first bus in just one week, so we got a second bus! There will now be 2 buses departing Long Island to join the rally. We will have 3 pick up spots the morning of the event. The first pick up is at 5:30am, on the campus of Stony Brook University at the West Campus loop, near Staller Center and the Administration Building. The second pick up is at 6am, at the Park n’ Ride, off of Rt.110 in Melville, and the last stop is at 6:30am, at Christopher Morely Park, off of the LIE at exit 36.
We will be returning directly after the rally.
We are asking $35 to cover the cost of the bus, and we welcome additional donations. Any donation will go to cover the cost for someone who can’t afford to go. If you want to come, but can’t afford the price of a ticket, please contact the coordinator. We might have gotten donations to help cover the cost of your ticket. SPACE IS LIMITED, so please sign up quickly if you plan on joining us.
PLEASE CHECK BACK WITH THIS PAGE AS THE EVENT NEARS FOR UPDATES AND ANY CHANGES. Please let the bus coordinator know which stop you are planning to be at, to get on the bus.
